🦠 Mpox concerns in Russia: Moscow region, then St Petersburg. Investigations into suspected mpox were reported in the Moscow region on 15 October and St Petersburg on 16 October. In St Petersburg, five people were hospitalised under medical observation. These reports alone do not establish widespread transmission. Mpox spreads mainly through close contact with an infected person or contaminated materials. Symptoms usually begin within a week but can appear 1–21 days after exposure. Most people recover, but severe cases can cause secondary infections, eye damage and death. The reports do not establish a link to crowded airports. Viruses don’t wait for official approval.

The launch of a stockpile of #mpox vaccines is an important step towards ensuring that countries can access vaccines more quickly when they need them, saving lives and containing outbreaks before they spread further. My thanks to all partners involved. https://t.co/3FrwoU8wuc
